Single-track motor vehicles.
Two-track motor vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of up to 3.5 tonnes. Trailers do not need a separate vignette.
Drivers holding a disabled person's pass with the additional entry "unreasonableness of using public transport" can obtain a free digital annual vignette from ASFINAG.
Vehicles of the army, police, and emergency services are exempt under specific conditions.
Vehicles with a total weight of over 3.5 tonnes do not use the vignette system. They must use a distance-based toll system with an onboard unit called the GO-Box.
If caught without a valid vignette, you must pay a substitute toll of €120 for cars or €65 for motorcycles. If this substitute toll is not paid, fines in administrative proceedings can range from €300 to €3,000.
A valid vignette must be acquired before driving onto a tolled motorway or expressway. The sticker vignette must be properly affixed to the windscreen. The digital vignette is linked to the license plate and is valid immediately only when purchased at a physical point of sale (due to online consumer protection laws).
